The Giants Causeway is the result of a volcanic eruption leaving 40,000 interlocking basalt columns. Located in N.Ireland it was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. The tops of the basalt columns, most of which are hexagonal, form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. The Giants Causeway is owned and managed by the National Trust and one of the most popular attractions in N.Ireland
